A 35-year-old Township of Hamilton man is facing assault- and weapon-related charges after Northumberland OPP says police responded to a family dispute call.
According to police, the call came in on May 1, at about 7:45 p.m., prompting a response from Peterborough and Northumberland OPP at a Hannah Road residence.
“It was reported that an individual was in possession of an edged weapon and was causing damage to the home,” said police.
When police arrived, the person had reportedly left, and one individual involved was treated for minor injuries, added police.
OPP’s emergency response team and canine unit were also dispatched to help with the investigation.
The accused was eventually located nearby and taken into custody, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said the accused was charged with assault causing bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, and mischief under $5,000.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
Police said the accused won’t be named to protect the identity of the victim.
