An 18-year-old Cobourg resident is facing impaired driving charges after Northumberland OPP patrol efforts, say police.
Last Sunday, May 4, 2025, at about 7:45 p.m., police said an officer was on patrol in the Burnham Street Cobourg area when they observed a vehicle allegedly travelling at a high rate of speed in a 40 km/h zone.
The vehicle was stopped, and police said the driver exited the vehicle in an effort to walk to a nearby residence.
After speaking with the driver, police allege they detected an odour of alcohol and made a demand through approved screening device (breath sample demand.)
The driver complied and allegedly registered a “fail” reading, resulting in the accused being arrested and transported to a local detachment for further tests, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said the 18-year-old Cobourg resident was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus,) drive motor vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, and novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused also had their licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
