Entrepreneurs in Northumberland County looking to grow their businesses can now apply for a free $3,500 micro grant through the Business & Entrepreneurship Centre Northumberland (BECN).
Applications for the Starter Company Growth Program, supported by the Province of Ontario, are open until June 2, 2025. In addition to the non-repayable grant, selected applicants will receive expert-led training, mentorship and tailored business support.
“This is an amazing platform for the success of any small business,” said Robyn West, owner of Star Laser Skin Services in Port Hope, and a past program participant. “Their tailored mentorship, funding, grant navigation and exemplary networking were beneficial tools in growing my business.”
To qualify, businesses must be based in Northumberland County and have operated full-time for at least six months. The program aims to help entrepreneurs scale their operations, launch new services or hire staff.
CrossFit Cobourg co-owners Scott Carreira and Bud Tinney credit BECN with helping them start and grow their business over the last decade. “Now, a decade later, we’re leaning on that support again as we take the next step to grow,” said Carreira.
Applicants must go through a competitive process, as space and funding are limited.
BECN is Northumberland’s central hub for free business resources, programs and advice.
