Construction work on the Frankford Canal bridge is officially getting underway as of next week.
According to the City of Quinte West, construction work will start on Tuesday, May 20, which will result in lane and sidewalk closures well into the summer.
City officials say from May 20 to Aug. 29, bridge traffic will be reduced to a single lane.
While access will be maintained in both directions with an alternative one-way traffic light, drivers should expect delays.
Meanwhile, from May 20 to July 9, the sidewalk east of Frankford Tourist Park will be closed.
However, access to Frankford Tourist Park will be maintained.
This phase of construction will include work around substructure concrete and sidewalk handrail repairs and road resurfacing.
The rehabilitation project is to extend the lifespan of the bridge, say city staff.
Phase 2 of construction will follow and is currently scheduled to start in early September.
The city encourages residents to stay up-to-date on the bridge rehabilitation and other capital projects via its website.
