Since the 1950s, Cole’s Timber Mart has been serving the Brighton community and beyond.
The family-owned-and-operated business has been passed down through four generations, with George Hamilton now as owner since the 80s, and son Mitch Hamilton serving as general manager.
Over the decades, Cole’s has expanded from just a general store to a fulsome building supply retail store, and now, there’s also Cole’s Installations, explains Mitch, who originally started working at the store in his teens.
“We owe a lot to the community – Brighton’s a very loyal town – and they’ve been great to us,” says Mitch, adding this remains a big inspiration behind the business today.
From sourcing local and Canadian, to supporting local jobs with a staff of more than 30 currently, to giving back to the community through sports teams, donations to groups such as Sunny Days or the Children’s Foundation, or helping with the historic hops barn relocation, Cole’s is big on community, explains Mitch.
Below you can hear more from Mitch about the evolution of Cole’s, its services, and how the company continues to support the community.
