A 21-year-old North York man has been charged with careless driving after a transport trailer veered into a ditch along Highway 401 westbound in Cobourg early Thursday morning.
Northumberland OPP say the single-vehicle collision happened just after 6:30 a.m. west of Burnham Street. The driver of the transport was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Emergency crews responded quickly, and heavy tow equipment was called in to recover the transport vehicle from the ditch. Telephone Road remains closed to allow for the recovery operation.
Police say no other vehicles were involved, and the highway itself remains open, with no delays being reported in the area.
The 21-year-old driver now faces a charge of careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
Drivers are asked to avoid the Telephone Road area until further notice.
