The Bancroft OPP crime unit has charged a 15-year-old after an investigation into the alleged non-consensual distribution of an intimate image involving another young person, say police.
The investigation started in March 2025 when police were made aware of a sexually explicit video allegedly being circulated among youth, said police, adding the image involved a person under the age of 18 and was shared without the individual’s knowledge or consent.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 15-year-old has now been charged under the Criminal Code with distribution of child pornography.
The identity of the accused is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, added police.
The investigation has prompted a public reminder to the public from OPP that sharing intimate images without consent is a serious criminal offence.
“These actions can cause significant emotional harm and carry life-long legal consequences,” said OPP, while encouraging parents and guardians to speak with youth about safe online behaviour and the importance of consent in all interactions.
Anyone impacted by the sharing of private images or who suspects unlawful activity is urged to contact police or a trusted adult, said OPP.
