A sold-out summer tradition will mark a milestone this year as Wine and Ale in the Park returns to Cobourg’s Victoria Park on June 26.
The 2025 edition will mark the tenth year local realtor Tony Pulla serves as presenting sponsor, capping off a decade of support for the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation.
Now 81, Pulla said it’s time to step back, but giving back to the community will always be important.
“This is always a fun event that brings our community together for a relaxed and enjoyable evening in support of our local hospital,” said Pulla. “It’s one I have been proud to support for 10 years.”
He shared his thoughts on his years of giving back.
The event has raised more than $219,000 since it began thanks to Pulla’s backing and enthusiastic community participation. It features local wine and ale pairings with dishes from regional chefs and restaurants.
Pulla said it’s time to slow down but not stop giving back, something he hopes to continue to do.
Rhonda Cunningham, CEO of the NHH Foundation, said Pulla’s decade of support leaves a lasting impact.
“We have been so fortunate to benefit from Tony’s dedication to our hospital and our community.” said Cunningham.
Cunningham said his example shows how giving in any form strengthens the community.
In addition to Wine and Ale, Pulla has supported Ed’s House through Handbags for Hospice, the Salvation Army and the Fare Share Food Bank, to name just a few of the causes over the years. He said that his desire to give was inspired by lessons learned at his grandmother’s knee as a boy in Italy.
Pulla said he learned from her the value of giving to your community as you are able.
Cunningham said his legacy shows the power of giving, whether it’s time, money or experience.
