Peterborough Public Health has confirmed a second case of measles in the region and is alerting the public to two new potential exposure locations.
Health officials say the latest case involves a vaccinated individual who had contact with the first confirmed measles patient announced last week. Measles is a highly contagious, airborne virus that can spread quickly among people who are not protected.
Those who visited Dairy Queen at 828 Chemong Road between 4:00 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. or The Back40 Smoke House at 289 George Street North between 6:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on June 15 are advised to monitor for symptoms until July 6, 2025.
Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that typically starts on the face and spreads.
Peterborough Public Health is urging residents to check their immunization records and ensure they’ve received two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine. Anyone who is unvaccinated, immunocompromised, or pregnant and may have been exposed should call 705-743-1000 to assess risk and potential need for post-exposure care.
Those who develop symptoms should stay home and notify Public Health before seeking medical attention.
