New traffic calming measures are coming to four Quinte West roads starting next week, says the city.
The City of Quinte West said the measures being rolled out effective June 23 are part of a traffic calming pilot project.
Along Couch Crescent, asphalt speed humps and temporary, seasonal in-road flexible posts with attached speed limit signs are being installed.
Similarly, on Lester Road, there will be seasonal, in-road flexible posts with attached signs.
Meanwhile, on Montrose Road and Moira Street West, the flexible posts with signs will be installed, as well as seasonal rubber speed humps.
According to city staff, the in-road flexible posts are vertical posts installed near the edge of roadways or down the road’s centre line – they help narrow the road, guide traffic and encourage motorists to slow sown so they can pass through the posts safely.
The speed humps – rounded, raised areas of a roadway – encourage people to slow their roll and reduce speeds to maintain comfort and prevent damage to vehicles.
Motorists should also expect temporary traffic delays during installations.
These measures are building on recommendations by the city’s active transportation and traffic safety advisory committee and are in response to community concerns about traffic safety in these areas, explained city staff.
Council approved these measures back in November.
