More than $4 million dollars’ worth of illegal cannabis plants, clones and processed cannabis bud has been seized after an alleged bust in Bobcaygeon, says OPP.
OPP’s organized crime enforcement bureau said the provincial joint forces cannabis enforcement team (PJFCET) launched its Cannabis Act (CA) investigation following a referral from Health Canada about cannabis being grown in contravention of the issued registrations earlier this month. Officers with Kawartha Lakes OPP and the Peterborough/Northumberland OPP community street crime unit also helped with the probe, reported police.
On Thursday, June 19, 2025, investigators reported that they seized about 3,750 illegal cannabis plants, 12,500 cannabis clones and about 430 pounds of dried, processed cannabis.
As a result of the investigation, police said three individuals were each charged with cultivating cannabis without authorization, contrary to the Cannabis Act. Police said the accused include Xiao Dong, 50, of Markham, Qiaoli Guan, 49, of Calgary, Alta., and Mei Huang, 55, of Markham.
None of these charges have been proven in court. All of the accused were released from custody and will appear in court in Lindsay on July 10, 2025, reported OPP.
OPP noted that their investigation remains ongoing.
