Alderville First Nation is inviting everyone to experience Indigenous culture, music, and dance at its 31st Annual Traditional Pow Wow, happening July 12 and 13 at 8757 Roseneath Landing Road.
Gates open at 10 a.m. each day, with Grand Entry taking place at noon on both Saturday and Sunday.
Alderville First Nation’s Cultural Program Advisor Aiden Gorveatt says it’s a family-friendly event with traditional dancing, music, vendors, and lots of opportunities to participate.
Emcee Jordan Mowat will guide attendees through the day, with Smoke Trail serving as the Host Drum. Perry “Bing” Stevens is the Arena Director and Tim Smoke will serve as Head Firekeeper.
According to Gorveatt, there’s something for everyone, whether you’re a long-time supporter or first-time visitor.
Admission is $10 for those aged 13-64, $5 for children aged 7-12, and free for kids under six, adults 65+, and Alderville First Nation members.
One important note for attendees: pets are not allowed on the Pow Wow grounds. As Gorveatt explains, this decision respects cultural protocols rooted in Indigenous teachings and creation stories.
Visitors can expect a full sensory experience with drumming, live singing, beautiful regalia, and even chances to win spot dance prizes.
Parking is available near the Pow Wow grounds at a new parking lot at the corner of Roseneath Landing Road and County Road 18 as well at Glen Crowe Memorial Park at 5555 Minnetonka Road with shuttle service running throughout the day.
This is a rain-or-shine event. Rough camping is available on-site, with showers offered off-site and no campfires permitted. Guests are encouraged to bring water bottles, sunscreen, and lawn chairs and to respect dancers’ spaces unless invited. Note also that no drugs or alcohol are permitted.
Come celebrate Indigenous culture and community at Alderville this weekend!
