Quinte West OPP and Belleville Police Service enforcement efforts focusing on the “big four” are continuing along Old Hwy. 2 between RCAF Road and Tyendinaga.
As previously reported, OPP said data analysis in the area shows that on weekdays during the commuter hours speeds are high, and people appear to be distracted. As a result, throughout July, police are zeroing in on distracted and aggressive driving, impaired driving, seat belts and speeding, and motorists can expect to see an increased police presence along this stretch of road.
In their latest update on July 14th, police said since July 7th, officers issued another 81 provincial offences notices, including 46 notices related to speeding; one seat belt fine; four notices for equipment defects – all tint-related; four commercial motor vehicle fines; 17 notices issued for documentation; eight cellphone-related charges, and one notice for failing to move over for an emergency vehicle.
On July 10, police also said they teamed up Ministry of Transportation officers for commercial motor vehicle inspections on 25 vehicles, resulting in 14 being placed out of service due to safety defects and three had licence plates removed due to major defects.
A total of 23 charges were laid, including violations related to overweight vehicles, expired annuals, improper tires, brakes and registrations, and emissions and pre-trip inspection violations, reported OPP.
