Residents may notice an increased military presence in the 8 Wing/CFB Trenton area over the coming weeks due to training.
The Department of National Defence says members from the 2 Military Police Squadron will be conducting an aircraft security officer course (ASOC) until the end of the month at 8 Wing/Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton.
“This type of training is essential for maintaining the security maintenance and management skills for the participants to safely execute Canadian Armed Forces missions around the world, often under challenging conditions,” reads a recent public notice. “It is important that these proficiencies are maintained in Canada so our aircrew are prepared to execute these maneuvers.”
While the course is taking place within the confines of the base, personnel may be visible from outside 8 Wing, note officials.
“During the course, there will be scenarios using SIG SAUER pistols and Colt Canada C8 carbines equipped with training magazines and blank-firing attachments (BFA). Blank ammunition will be used at CFB Trenton,” note officials.
As part of this course, members may also conduct marches twice daily with their weapons inside 8 Wing/CFB Trenton and will be visible from Hwy. 2 and RCAF Road.
“Members of the 2 Military Police Squadron are well-trained and there is no risk to public safety during this exercise.”
Officials add that all efforts will be made to ensure disruption in the community is kept to a minimum. Canadian Armed Forces members must also adhere to strict safety rules and regulations at all times, add officials.
