Investigations are continuing after two suspected weekend drownings in the East Lake Prince Edward County area, says OPP.
In an update issued Monday, July 21, 2025, OPP confirmed the one incident claimed the life of a 51-year-old Toronto-area man.
According to OPP, on Saturday, July 19, just before 6 p.m., officers were called to a resort on County Road 18.
“It was reported that an individual had drowned,” said police.
When officers arrived, fire and rescue and paramedics, along with civilians, were attempting life-saving measures, said OPP. The individual was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced deceased and his identity confirmed, reported police.
In a separate incident on Sunday, July 20, just before 6 p.m., officers were called to a location along County Road 11.
“It was reported that a group had been out in two canoes on East Lake when they decided to go swimming and were then unable to get back into the canoes,” said OPP. “One person made it to shore, and a bystander went out in his boat and pulled two other individuals from the water.
“The final person could not be located.”
On Monday, police said the missing person’s identity isn’t being confirmed at this time.
Divers with the OPP’s underwater search and recovery unit will be at East Lake today, said police.
