A serious multi-vehicle crash in Bancroft has sent five people to hospital, and prompted a call for help from OPP.
Bancroft OPP said the investigation into the collision on Hwy. 28 between Bronson and Detlor roads is ongoing.
According to OPP, emergency crews responded to the crash – which involved two passenger vehicles and a motorcycle – on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at about 3:30 p.m.
“As a result, five individuals were transported to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening,” reported OPP, on Thursday, July 24.
OPP’s technical collision investigators and specialists trained in reconstruction were also called in to help and aided with the on-site investigation, which shut down the highway for several hours.
“It is believed the collision may have been caused by a muffler that fell off a vehicle onto the highway,” said police, in their initial report on the collision.
Police are calling on any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to reach out to OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
Police have also issued a reminder to drivers to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained and any items being transported are securely fastened to vehicles.
