As Ontario communities struggle with aging water infrastructure and costly upgrades, Haldimand–Norfolk MPP Bobbi Ann Brady is urging municipalities to explore innovative alternatives.
A $450-million plan to pipe drinking water from a treatment facility in Nanticoke into Norfolk, Haldimand, and Six Nations has been discussed for years. However, Brady says she was never convinced federal and provincial governments would foot the bill—especially as the 2025 Ontario Budget allocates just $1.3 billion for the province-wide Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund.
Brady recently met with Miranda Water Technologies, a Turkish company offering modular water systems that can be scaled to meet local development needs without costly overhauls. She sees this as a promising “Plan B” for local municipalities facing financial and demographic challenges.
While not endorsing any specific company, Brady encourages community leaders to explore decentralized water solutions that are flexible, sustainable, and less burdensome on taxpayers. She says Norfolk going “back to the drawing board” is the right move.
