Quinte West OPP says an 87-year-old man involved in a collision in the County Road 64 area Tuesday has suffered serious and potentially life-altering injuries.
In an afternoon update on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, police said the collision – which resulted in serious injuries for a cyclist – occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on County Road 64 between Barcovan Beach Road and Carter Road.
A post by a public information advisor (PIA) to OPP’s social media earlier in the day indicated the collision involved a cyclist and vehicle.
In their afternoon update, OPP said police and paramedics responded to the scene Tuesday morning and found an 87-year-old cyclist had been hurt. The man was sent to hospital with serious and potentially life-altering injuries, reported OPP.
County Road 64 was shut down until just before noon for the on-site investigation. Police said their probe is still ongoing with help from one of OPP’s technical collision investigators.
Meanwhile, police said a charge has been laid after an incident earlier Tuesday at the crash scene.
During the on-site investigation, police said an individual allegedly proceeded to drive past the road closure and marked cruisers with flashing lights activated, coming to a stop in the middle of the collision scene.
As a result, police said a 71-year-old Carrying Place man was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving on a closed highway.
In terms of their probe into the collision, police are still asking any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to reach out to Quinte West OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Police provided an incident number of E251008490.
No other details were released by police.
