A colourful rainbow and a heartfelt message of thanks are helping Five Counties Children’s Centre mark its 50th anniversary in a deeply personal way.
The Centre has unveiled a special edition thank-you card featuring artwork by seven-year-old Meryn of Peterborough, one of its clients. The card will be shared with donors, volunteers and supporters as a token of appreciation. A brief profile of Meryn appears on the back of the card, highlighting her journey since moving to Peterborough in 2021.
Born with hypoglycemia and developmental delays, Meryn has received speech, occupational and physiotherapy services at Five Counties alongside her twin brother. Her passion for swimming and rainbows shines through in her winning card design.
“Having a thank-you card designed by one of our clients like Meryn adds a deeply personal touch to our 50th anniversary festivities,” said Scott Pepin, CEO of Five Counties. “It allows our supporters to see the real impact of their generosity.”
The Centre hosted a region-wide colouring contest earlier this year to select the design. Kassie Graham, Community Engagement Coordinator at Five Counties, said choosing just two winners was no easy task.
“We are incredibly grateful to all the young artists who participated and we’re excited to share these cards far and wide,” she said. “Receiving one that showcases the impact of our supporters on children’s lives is truly special.”
Seven-year-old Lyla from Omemee was also recognized as a Community Winner.
Five Counties serves children and youth with physical, developmental and communication needs across Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton and Northumberland.
