The Midway Drive-In at 2141 Theatre Road is reopening September 5 and 6 for Encore at the Midway – a two-night fundraiser supporting YMCA Northumberland’s Back on Track program for at-risk youth.
“Our event is more than two nights at the movies – it’s a weekend community celebration AND an investment in our kids’ futures,” says Eunice Kirkpatrick, President & CEO, YMCA Northumberland. “We know people love the Midway – so do we. This is our way of giving it the send-off it deserves while turning that love into life-changing support for local teens.”
Manager of Philanthropy Zoey Read says the event is a great opportunity to give back while enjoying a community tradition for the last time.
Each night features two family-favourite movies, voted on by the community. Friday night will feature The Jungle Book and Grease, followed by The Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean on Saturday. Guests will also enjoy live music before the show and during halftime with Greatest of Ease & Garage Dog on Friday and Cale Crowe and Deborah Lynn & Band Saturday night.
Read says there’s plenty for the family to enjoy.
In addition to live entertainment, and some great feature files, there’ll be a “touch-a-truck” display, kids’ activities, food vendors, and free popcorn.
Organizers say the weekend will also mark a farewell for a beloved landmark.
Tickets are $125 per carload, including preferred parking for the first 125 buyers each night, live entertainment, and a $50 charitable tax receipt. Proceeds directly support youth in need. Thanks to generous sponsors the YMCA is offering a subsidized rate for those families that might struggle with the entry fee – you can get more details by emailing ymcanorthumberland@gmail.com.
Encore at the Midway is presented by Bin-It / Cut-It Ltd., with support from local Rotary Clubs, Cobourg Lions Club, Ganaraska Financial, and media sponsors 93.3 myFM and Classic Rock 107.9.
