The next phase of construction for the Frankford Canal Bridge is getting underway and will mean the westbound lane of the bridge will be closed to through-traffic starting next week, says the City of Quinte West.
The closure will be in place as of Wednesday, Sept. 3 and continue until Oct. 24.
“All westbound traffic will be rerouted using the following detour route: North onto River Drive, southwest onto Riverside Parkway/Glen Miller Road, west on the Johnstown Road bridge, and north onto Trenton Frankford Road/Hwy. 33,” says the city.
The sidewalk from South Trent Street to Tourist Park Road will also be closed.
Construction work started back in May. The rehabilitation project has been described as extensive and includes concrete patchwork, handrail replacement, expansion joint replacements and substructure concrete patching and repairs, ultimately aimed at extending the lifespan of the bridge.
In terms of the latest, the city says the contractor has finished expansion joint replacement and concrete patching on the portion over the Trent Canal. Paving is currently slated to start in late August.
Construction work is still set to wrap up by the end of October.
The city also posts updates on capital projects and construction via a dedication section on its website.
