Quinte West OPP says a Scugog Township resident is facing charges after an alleged incident that started with an alert about a stolen vehicle in the area.
On Wednesday Sept. 3, 2025, at about 1:30 p.m., officers with Quinte West OPP and OPP’s traffic incident management and enforcement team (TIME) were dispatched to a report of a stolen vehicle near Douglas Road, said police.
After a traffic stop was initiated, the vehicle allegedly fled and was stopped on Dixon Drive after the driver lost control, reported OPP. The driver then exited the vehicle and allegedly fled on foot but was subsequently located and taken into custody, added police.
As a result of the investigation, police said Byron Hoadley, 32, of Scugog Township, was charged with:
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand.
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
- Possessing automobile master key.
- Flight from peace officer.
- Dangerous operation.
- Two counts of failure to comply with a release order – other than to attend court.
- Five counts of failure to comply with probation.
- Six counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition, contrary to prohibition order.
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada.
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon.
- Driving while under suspension.
- Obstruct plate.
- Alter permit.
- Use plate not authorized for vehicle.
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville, reported OPP, on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025.
In response to inquiries, an OPP spokesperson said the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) wasn’t called in for this incident and no injuries were reported.
No other details were released by police.
