Victor Gabovic of Baltimore has won a $250,000 top prize with an instant lottery ticket purchased on Canada Day.
The retiree, who has played lottery games for decades, used a mobile app at home to check the ticket and discovered his win. He later visited the OLG prize centre in Toronto to claim the amount.
Gabovic shared the news with his son, who congratulated him with a hug. He says the experience was thrilling and unlike any previous smaller wins he has had. With the winnings, he is considering making vehicle purchases for himself and his son.
The winning ticket was purchased at Clark’s Dale Road Variety in Cobourg. Gabovic usually selects his numbers based on family birthdays.
While the top prize is significant, officials remind players that odds of winning any prize vary depending on the game. Gabovic said the experience is a reminder that “you never know what can happen.”
