Lakelands Public Health has unveiled its new name and brand identity, officially marking the merger of the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health.
The transformation creates a unified public health agency serving Northumberland County, the City of Kawartha Lakes, the City and County of Peterborough, and Haliburton County.
Medical Officer of Health and CEO Dr. Thomas Piggott said the change is “more than a new name and logo” and represents a shared commitment to building a healthier future by bringing together staff, expertise and resources.
The new logo incorporates circular sun and moon imagery connecting land and water, symbolizing the continuous nature of public health and the interconnectedness of mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Indigenous partners, including the Indigenous Health Advisory Circle, were consulted during the rebranding. Chair Liz Stone said the design reflects wholeness and “Mino Bimaadiziwin – Good Life” while acknowledging the importance of Water, Earth, Sun and Moon.
Residents will continue to access all existing programs and services – from immunizations and infectious disease prevention to health promotion, environmental health and emergency preparedness. Officials say the merger will also strengthen coordination and partnerships across the region.
Signage, online platforms and program materials will be updated over the coming months. Community members can visit LakelandsPH.ca
