An investigation by OPP’s Peterborough County/Northumberland community street crime unit has led to the alleged recovery of about $40,000 worth of suspected stolen items from a North Kawartha Township marina.
According to OPP, on Sept. 29, 2025, a Peterborough County OPP officer responded to a theft report at the marina and was told sometime during the early hours of Sept. 28, “a variety of trolling motors and fish finders were taken from boats at the marina.”
The call led to the street crime unit initiating an investigation and a warrant being executed in Durham. Investigators allege they found about $40,000 worth of suspected stolen items and that the suspect initially fled the scene but was located shortly afterwards.
Police also stated the suspect was bound by conditions of various releases, including not to be residing in the Durham area.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 53-year-old Oshawa resident was charged with theft over $5,000, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, four counts of failure to comply with a release order, and breach of probation.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
Investigators said they’re also continuing to look for information that may lead to the return of property to their rightful owners.
Anyone with tips on the case is asked to call Peterborough OPP at 705-742-0401, OPP’s non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers.
