Breakfast Television, CityTV’s flagship morning show, broadcast live from Port Hope this morning, shining a national spotlight on the municipality’s unique attractions, dining, and cultural experiences.
Mayor Olena Hankivsky says the community came out in force to showcase why Port Hope is such a vibrant destination.
“You know we tried to really relay today that it is the port to all kinds of experiences and you’re right we’ve got something happening almost every weekend – a great line up of events.”
From seasonal festivals like Cultivate, to the world-renowned salmon run, visitors to Port Hope can find something special at almost any time of year.
Food is always part of the experience, and local entrepreneur George Kallonakis, co-owner of Olympus Burger, was on hand with samples for BT hosts Dina Pugliese and Tim Bolen. His restaurant has been recognized as one of the best burger spots in Canada.
“We have received a lot of exposure over the years, national TV, best burgers in Canada and things like that so you know what, we’d be happy to have people visit Port Hope and explore and stop in and visit Olympus Burger.”
The broadcast also leaned into spooky season, highlighting Port Hope’s role as the filming location for Stephen King’s IT franchise. Meg Ronson from the municipality’s economic development team says the connection continues to draw visitors.
“Port Hope is Derry really – like it’s kind of like Derry is Port Hope’s evil twin almost right, and you’re walking the streets and you’re thinking… oh wow I have this eerie feeling that I’ve been here before.”
Fans can spot Pennywise’s signature red balloons throughout downtown in October, adding an eerie twist to fall festivities.
Visitors can learn more about upcoming events and attractions by visiting the municipality’s website and social media channels.
