In the wake of the latest nationwide Canada Post strike, municipalities like Brighton and Quinte West are continuing to urge residents to make use of e-billing and other alternative payment services.
Simply put, you still have to pay your utility and tax bills.
Here’s what you need to know:
The Municipality of Brighton says residents have options and registering for e-billing is a quick, convenient and environmentally-friendly way to get statements directly in inboxes.
However, there are also alternative payment methods available to residents through online and telephone banking, by Visa on Brighton’s website and a pre-authorization program (PAP) – and you can always pay in-person at the Municipal Centre at 35 Alice St. Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The municipality is also reminding residents that water bills are due on Oct. 31, 2025.
Residents with questions can also reach out to municipal staff at 613-475-0670 ext. 211.
In the City of Quinte West, officials are also urging residents to avoid sending payments and documents via mail to the city.
For property taxes, water bills and other municipal services, e-billing is an option. More information is available via the city’s website where you can also sign up.
Also on the city’s website is an option to sign up for pre-authorized payments for both property taxes and water accounts.
Paying through your bank – online or in-person – is another option, added city staff.
For in-person services, where residents can deliver letters and documents and make payments for all city services, city hall at 7 Creswell Dr. and the Frankford Municipal Offence at 22 North Trent St. are open Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Staff added that cheque payments can be dropped off after-hours via the drop box at both locations – but residents are asked not to put cash in the boxes.
Residents with questions around property taxes can also email tax.billing@quintewest.ca or call 613-392-2841 ext. 4902. For water billing inquiries, people can reach out to waterbilling@quintewest.ca or call 613-392-2841 ext. 4909. Meanwhile, for general or time-sensitive inquiries, residents can call the same town hall number.
