Northumberland OPP says a Cobourg resident is facing charges after a traffic stop led to the alleged seizure of garbage bags full of “loose cannabis material.”
According to OPP, on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, shortly after 9 p.m., officers responded to a traffic complaint involving a vehicle allegedly being driven erratically in the Theatre Road Township of Hamilton area.
While on patrol, OPP said officers found a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description in the William Street Cobourg area where it entered a commercial parking lot.
After speaking with the driver, police said they learned the motorist was prohibited from driving.
A search of the vehicle then allegedly led to the seizure of “a number of black plastic bags containing loose cannabis material.”
As a result of the investigation, police said a 46-year-old Cobourg resident was charged with possession of over 30 grams of dried cannabis (or equivalent) in a public place, cultivate, propagate or harvest any cannabis plant at a place that is not their dwelling-house, and operation while prohibited.
None of these charges have been proven in court. The accused is due in Cobourg court in November.
Police said the vehicle was also impounded for 45 days.
