A Milton resident is facing charges after Quinte West OPP says police recovered a stolen vehicle after a traffic stop.
According to OPP, the traffic stop was initiated on Hwy. 401 at about 4:10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025.
The investigation led to an individual being arrested for allegedly being in possession of a stolen vehicle, and additional charges under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act and Cannabis Control Act being laid, reported OPP.
As a result of the probe, police said a 26-year-old Milton resident was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, trafficking in property obtained by crime, use, deals, acts on forged document, driving while under suspension, and driving a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available.
None of these charges have been proven in court. The accused will appear in Belleville court at a later date, reported OPP.
The alleged incident has also prompted a reminder from OPP.
“Thieves are constantly developing new methods to facilitate vehicle thefts,” said police, while urging residents to take action to prevent thefts.
Parking vehicles in locked garages where possible is key as most vehicles are stolen from driveways, said police, adding that using a steering wheel lock is also recommended, which can further work as a visual deterrent.
Police also recommend installing a lock on your car’s data port, saying such devices can be purchased online and simply put, block access to vehicles’ computer ports.
