
Building activity in Brighton appears to have slowed some in comparison to this time last year, but in terms of dollar value, the municipality is still significantly up year-over-year and for the last month, according to the latest stats.
Earlier this month, the Municipality of Brighton issued its building permit totals for September 2025, reporting a total of 17 permits were issued, translating to roughly $5.4 million. In comparison, 20 permits were issued last September, with about $3.4 million in construction value reported.
In terms of overall permit figures, 125 permits have been issued so far this year compared to 138 permits issued this time last year, according to the municipality’s building summary.
Nevertheless, year-to-date construction is up significantly: Those 125 permits issued so far this year translate to more than $113 million versus the 138 permits issued this time last year, with a reported $45.8 million value roughly.
In other words, the municipality is still up to the tune of about $67.9 million in comparison to last year.
In terms of dwelling specific-related permits, figures are up when comparing year-to-date numbers – 42 in 2025 versus 38 this time in 2024.
Five permits related to urban dwellings were issued in September 2025 (the same as September 2024). There has been a total of 32 urban-related permits issued so far in 2025, and another 10 rural dwelling permits.
The latest building summary also shows four permits for additional residential units this year.
In terms of a more recent month-by-month comparison, the municipality previously reported 15 permits issued in July and 16 permits in June.
