OPG opens Discovery Centre on Toronto Road in Port Hope (October 2025)
Ontario’s Minister of Energy Stephen Lecce was in Port Hope Friday (October 10, 2025) for the announcement of Ontario Power Generation’s new Nuclear Discovery Centre on Toronto Road which officially opens next week.
The new facility offers residents and visitors an interactive way to learn about nuclear energy, safety, and the role it plays in Ontario’s clean electricity system.
The event also included remarks from Port Hope Mayor Olena Hankivsky, who said the centre will be a valuable tool as the community continues to explore its place in Ontario’s nuclear future.
Hankivsky said the discovery centre is both educational and forward-looking.
Minister of Labour and Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini highlighted the economic potential of Ontario’s expanding nuclear industry, calling it a generational opportunity for local workers and businesses.
According to Lecce, the discovery centre is the harbinger of great things to come.
The centre, developed by Ontario Power Generation (OPG), provides exhibits on the history of nuclear energy in Port Hope and showcases advancements in small modular reactor (SMR) technology, environmental stewardship, and clean energy innovation.
The Port Hope Nuclear Discovery Centre is now open to the public, offering tours, interactive displays, and educational programming for schools and community groups.
