A Quinte West officer is being credited with helping to save a life and rescuing a resident from a burning home on Thanksgiving Monday.
Emergency crews responded to reports of a residential fire in the Fifth Avenue Trenton area Monday at about 4 a.m.
“A witness who was alerted by a smoke alarm called 911 and then attempted to reach an occupant in a basement unit,” said OPP. “The witness had to retreat due to heavy smoke.”
A Quinte West officer was first to arrive at the scene and was able to find the distressed occupant in a locked room and bring them to safety, reported OPP, adding that the officer’s quick and courageous actions led to a successful rescue.
The individual was subsequently sent to hospital – all other occupants made it out of the building safely.
Officials continue to remind residents to check smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
