ALPR technology has helped Northumberland OPP recover a stolen vehicle – but the culprit is still outstanding, say police.
According to OPP, on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, at about 8 p.m., an officer was on patrol in the County Road 45 area and received an alert through in-cruiser automated licence plate recognition technology about a vehicle travelling southbound and believed to be stolen.
Police said the driver ended up leaving the roadway and driving into a field behind a residence before allegedly fleeing on foot.
The pick-up truck was confirmed as stolen from the Belleville area, reported investigators.
The incident prompted an increased police presence in the area initially – including with the canine unit called in to help with a search. However, no suspect(s) was found, and the investigation is ongoing, said OPP.
