Northumberland OPP says recovery of a vehicle from the Trent River in Campbellford is still ongoing this morning (Wednesday, Oct. 22.)
On Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, police issued a brief notice advising people of an increased police presence in the Ranney Gorge and Seymour Quarry Road area due to an investigation but said there was no threat to public safety.
“No further investigation is being released at this time,” reported OPP initially.
Later in the evening, OPP posted on social media that its underwater search and recovery unit was called in to help with the ongoing investigation and said updates would be provided when available.
Police later reported that a vehicle was found, but no people were inside, and that the heavy police presence was clearing just before 9 p.m.
In an update this morning, OPP said the vehicle removal process will continue this morning and no further updates are available at this time.
