The Township of Alnwick/Haldimand has again reaffirmed its zero tolerance policy on harassment, bullying and intimidation of staff following recent incidents and misinformation circulating in the community, say officials.
In a recent statement, officials emphasized that the township is committed to upholding a safe and respectful environment for employees and elected representatives, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Employment Standards Act.
Residents are encouraged to contact staff or members of council directly with questions or concerns about municipal services, programs or decisions, rather than sharing unverified information or engaging in inappropriate behaviour.
“The township’s goal is to foster a community built on transparency, trust and open communication,” officials said. “We are open to respectful dialogue and available to provide accurate information to ensure residents are well informed.”
Mayor John Logel expressed gratitude to municipal employees and condemned recent instances of harassment.
“Behind every township service is a person (and) someone working hard for our community,” said Logel. “As mayor, I want our staff to know they have my full support.
“Harassment and intimidation have no place in our community. We must always act with respect, kindness and integrity.”
CAO and fire Chief Dave Dawson added that any form of threatening or intimidating behaviour toward staff will not be tolerated and may result in legal or law enforcement action.
Residents are reminded that official township information is available through the municipal website, social media channels, newsletters and council meeting materials.
