In the one alleged incident on Oct. 26, 2025, at about 8:30 a.m., police said an OPP cruiser was travelling westbound on Hwy. 401 in the Township of Hamilton when it was passed by a passenger vehicle at a high rate of speed.
After a traffic stop and speaking with the driver, an impaired driving investigation was initiated, resulting in the individual being transferred to the station for further testing, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 50-year-old Oshawa resident was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus.)
Meanwhile, on the same day in a separate incident shortly after 9 p.m., police said they responded to a report of a vehicle being driven without lights in the County Road 50 area in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
After locating the vehicle and speaking with the driver, an impaired driving investigation was initiated, resulting in the motorist being taken into custody and a trip to detachment for further testing, said police.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 47-year-old Havelock resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
Both of the accused will appear in Cobourg court on dates in December and also had their licences suspended for 90 days, and the vehicles impounded for seven days.
Police continue to call on citizens to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911 and urge residents to plan ahead before getting behind the wheel.
