Two more recent stunt driving incidents on Hwy. 401 in Brighton and Cramahe have police calling on motorists to once again slow it down behind the wheel.
In the one alleged incident, Northumberland OPP said a 23-year-old Scarborough man was charged with stunt driving – excessive speed – after police reported clocking a vehicle at 155 km/h in the eastbound Brighton lanes.
In another incident in the Cramahe area, police said a 30-year-old Quebec man was charged with stunt driving after police allegedly clocked the accused at 166 km/h.
In both instances, the drivers also had their licences suspended, and the vehicles were impounded.
“Speeding continues to be one of the leading causes of serious collisions on Ontario roadways,” said Northumberland OPP Const. James Clarke. “We remind all drivers that speed limits are in place to protect everyone, including you, your passengers and other road users.
“Driving at excessive speeds drastically reduces reaction time and increases the severity of collisions,” added Clarke.
Meanwhile, Clarke said proactive enforcement efforts will continue to keep roads safe.
