The federal budget unveiled $1 trillion in investments over five years, including infrastructure funds, housing supports and an operating deficit projected at nearly $78 billion for 2025-26.
Rural regions could see benefits from planned infrastructure and innovation supports aimed at remote and less-urban communities.
But Conservative MP for Northumberland–Clarke Philip Lawrence says experience raises concerns about how well these funds will reach rural areas.
He also criticized the broader financial plan, echoing Conservative leader Pierre Poilivre, who said the budget nearly doubled former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s deficit and maintained Liberal taxes on groceries, work, energy and homebuilding.
