To help guide future development, Brighton has a draft secondary plan in the works and is encouraging residents to weigh in.
A public open house drop-in-style session where residents can learn more is set for Nov. 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Owen Gibb Community Centre inside the King Edward Park Arena Community Centre.
“A draft secondary plan has been prepared to guide future development within the municipality’s greenfield areas of the urban boundary to the year 2051,” explains municipal staff. “To a lesser degree, the plan also speaks to links on the fringe to urban areas.”
No registration is needed for residents looking to take part in the upcoming open house where residents can have their say.
At the meeting, municipal staff and project consultants will also be on hand to answer questions.
The plan reportedly zeroes in on a “comprehensive planning framework” for several growth areas and includes policies around addressing land use, housing, transportation, municipal servicing, natural heritage, open spaces and community design, note staff.
The effort is ultimately to guide, “sustainable, co-ordinated growth to 2051.”
The draft secondary plan is accessible online via the municipality’s website. Hard copies can also be reviewed at 35 Alice St. or at public works at 67 Sharp Rd.
Written submissions are also being accepted via rwhiteman@brighton.ca or through the mail to planning and development services.
In terms of next steps, public comments will help inform the final draft secondary plan before its presentation at a later statutory public meeting, say staff.
