A vehicle fire near Brighton on Hwy. 401 and an unrelated collision near the Big Apple wreaked havoc in the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 401 on Thursday resulting a highway shutdown stretching into the evening.
Initially, the highway was shut down to the vehicle fire and drifting smoke in the afternoon and then an unrelated crash involving two transports near County Road 25, just east of the Big Apple in Colborne, reported OPP.
The eastbound lanes reopened after 7 p.m., OPP confirmed on X.
Major congestion was reported throughout the day stretching along the highway and to Grafton.
Just after 5 p.m., police also said a transport truck hit a hydro pole in the Grafton Lyle Street exit area. This incident also resulted in a road closure and major congestion as hydro lines were downed. OPP said the road reopened just after 4 a.m.
No serious injuries were reported.
