Today is the big day for Brighton – the Santa Claus Parade returns.
The parade will go ahead regardless of the weather and kicks off at 7 p.m. at the intersection of Alice and Dundas.
The parade then hits Main Street, turns onto Maplewood Avenue, then Chapel and left onto Prince Edward Street before heading down Elizabeth (Hwy. 2) and ending at the Elizabeth and Terry Fox Drive intersection.
As a reminder, road closures will start going into effect around 6 p.m. and last for the duration of the parade.
Don’t forget your letters to Santa, and that Light Up Brighton festivities in Memorial Park are also happening.
Those festivities start at 6 p.m. Happy Harmony Choir will serenade folks at the park “with sounds of the season.” Smithfield Public School will be also dishing up hot chocolate and treats for a monetary donation.
And of course, Memorial Park will officially be lit up for the season.
As previously reported, ENSS youth are also hoping Brightonians will help them make a difference for residents struggling with homelessness at tonight’s parade. Student government members will be walking alongside their float collecting donations of winter gear like hats, mittens, gloves and socks. You can read our earlier coverage here.
