It was a rough start to the school day for more than half-a-dozen Northumberland area schools dealing with power outages as high winds continue to throttle the region.
However, things are looking up. A Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board spokesperson said all power has now been restored at all KPR schools impacted by outages this morning.
“The school day will continue as usual, and we thank families for their patience as we responded to the situation this morning,” added the spokesperson.
Schools that were impacted during outages earlier today included at least Colborne Public School, Roseneath Public School, Northumberland Hills Public School, Grafton Public School, Port Hope High School and Dr. M.S. Hawkins Senior Public School, Beatrice Strong Public School and Ganaraska Trail Public School.
The region has been enduring strong winds since yesterday – and according to Environment Canada, strong winds will continue into today (Thursday, Nov. 27.)
Southwest gusts of 70 to 80 km/h are only anticipated to diminish either later this morning or afternoon. Officials have been warning of local utility outages in their special weather statements issued for the eastern and western Northumberland (and Quinte) areas.
There are also scattered outages across the county being reported by Hydro One and Lakefront Utilities.
Among a few of the outages were two in Colborne impacting residents in the west and east, but both should now be resolved. A tree that fell on a line in Cobourg near Church and King was also causing some trouble earlier today.
Hydro One crews said they are working to respond to outages as quickly and safely as possible.
