The Peterborough/Northumberland OPP community street crime unit has helped take more than 48-thousand dollars’ worth of drugs off the streets – including more than one kilogram of fentanyl – in an investigation that stretched into Hamilton, say police.
According to OPP, in early October, the crime unit and OPP’s organized crime enforcement bureau, in partnership with the Hamilton Police Service, initiated an intelligence-led drug-trafficking investigation.
As part of the probe, police said on October 29th, multiple units – including the OP-led repeat offender parole enforcement squad – came together and located and arrested an individual subject to a committal warrant. Following this, a warrant was executed at a Hamilton residence where two more people were arrested, reported OPP.
As a result of the search warrant, police allege that 1.2 kilograms of suspected fentanyl, 150 grams of suspected cocaine, 110 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 35 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 100 hydromorphone tables (8 milligrams each) and one cellphone, along with $1,600, were seized.
Police said the estimated street value of the drugs seized is about $48,400.
As a result of the investigation, police said Justin Boyer, 36, of Norwood, was charged with possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, and possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine.
Police also said Marie Gazikova, 23, of Hamilton, and Steven Fenton, 39, of Hamilton, were each charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, and possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused were all remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear before the court in Hamilton at a later date, reported OPP.
