Quinte West has a new councillor with the appointment of Leslie Roseblade who will represent Ward 1 – Trenton.
As previously reported, a council seat was declared vacant following the passing of veteran Coun. Sally Freeman on Oct. 22, 2025.
Seventy-nine-year-old Freeman – one of the city’s longest serving councillors – started in local politics back in the 90s.
Roseblade is also a former two-term councillor and ran in the 2022 election and was next in line based on votes with 1,792 ballots in her favour at that time. Roseblade finished sixth in that run and just 67 votes behind Coun. Duncan Armstrong.
Roseblade most recently served on council prior to this in the 2018-22 term and before that on the 2010-14 council.
A majority of Quinte West council back on Nov. 19 ultimately opted not to pursue a costly byelection to fill the seat and appoint Roseblade to the role. Roseblade’s first day in the office was Dec. 3.
She will serve the community for the remainder of this council term and until Nov. 14, 2026.
