No one was injured after a blaze at a Belleville home that started Monday night, say officials.
Belleville Fire and Emergency Services were still at the scene as of Tuesday morning.
Officials said crews responded to reports of a structure fire around 11 p.m. last night at a single-family detached dwelling on Purdy Street.
“Firefighters successfully extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to neighbouring buildings,” said Belleville Fire and Emergency Services, in an update Tuesday morning. “No occupants were home at the time of the incident.”
No cause has been reported; however, property damage is being estimated at about $500,000.
Belleville’s fire prevention division is also reminding residents about new carbon monoxide (CO) fire code regulations that come into effect as of Jan. 1, 2026, which will impact existing homes, multi-unit residential buildings, along with care and group living facilities.
As part of the changes, CO alarms in existing homes now need to be on every level, not just the storeys where people sleep. In multi-unit residential buildings, alarms are required in specific suites, service rooms, and in certain circumstances within public corridors, added officials.
And in care and group living facilities, alarms have to be installed in suites and common areas.
