Prince Edward County says H.J. McFarland Memorial Home is acting in response to “a confirmed facility-wide respiratory outbreak.”
Officials confirmed the outbreak in a notice issued on Wednesday, Jan. 7, but didn’t specify the type of respiratory outbreak. At press deadline, the health unit also had no information surrounding an outbreak at the facility on its website.
Officials said staff have implemented mandatory masking until further notice in response to the outbreak. Visitors are also being asked to check with a staffer when visiting the home to determine what extra precautions to take to help prevent the spread of infections.
Officials also reiterated that everyone entering the home must wash their hands and/or use hand sanitizer and should follow best practices for hand hygiene to avoid contracting and/or transmitting infection.
Anyone with respiratory symptoms is urged to avoid visiting the home during the outbreak. Officials added that while small group activities continue, all large group activities have been cancelled in the wake of the outbreak.
No other details were released.
