A Scarborough resident is facing stunt and impaired driving charges after Northumberland OPP says the accused was initially stopped on Hwy. 401 in Brighton after being clocked at 170 km/h.
On Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, at about 1:30 a.m., officers were conducting speed enforcement in the eastbound lanes in the Municipality of Brighton area when they allegedly clocked the passenger vehicle speeding.
The vehicle was stopped and after speaking with the driver, officers initiated an impaired driving investigation, reported OPP, adding this resulted in the driver being taken into custody and transported to the station for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 24-year-old Scarborough resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed.
None of these charges have been proven in court. The accused is due in Cobourg court in February.
The accused also had their licence suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.
Police continue to call on citizens to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911.
