Northumberland OPP says eight people are facing charges after the alleged seizure of more than $3.8 million worth of illicit cannabis in the Municipality of Port Hope.
According to police, their probe led to more than 7,600 illicit cannabis plants and 100 pounds of dried cannabis bud being seized.
In December 2025, Northumberland OPP said emergency crews responded to a structure fire in the 5th Line area. While at the location, Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services notified OPP that cannabis was being grown at the property, reported police.
On Jan. 8, 2026, members from the OPP-led provincial joint forces cannabis enforcement team (PJFCET) and members of the Peterborough/Northumberland community street crime unit executed a warrant at the location, said police.

As a result of the investigation, police said the following eight individuals were each charged under the Cannabis Act with unlawfully cultivate, propagate or harvest a cannabis plant and possession for the purpose of distribution: Duc Le, 28, of North York, Hoang Nga, 44, of North York, Thu Nguyen, 44, of North York, Thi Nguyen, 43, of North York, Ngyenthi Sang, 49, of North York, Shua Tang-Zhong, 52, of Scarborough, Zhonghua Ye, 51, of Scarborough, and Yin Yang, 51, of Scarborough.
None of these charges have been proven in court.

The accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on Feb. 26, 2026.
