Campbellford Memorial Hospital’s laboratory team ended 2025 with a solid finish and record-setting testing volumes.
“These numbers really reflect both the volume and complexity of the work our team handles every day,” said Zoe Neilly, laboratory manager at CMH, following the release of the hospital’s 2025 year-end results under laboratory services. “Behind every sample is a patient waiting for answers and our staff are committed to delivering accurate, timely results that clinicians can rely on.”
In 2025, CMH’s core laboratory collected more than 66,390 samples and performed nearly 149,000 tests, supporting patient care not just in the hospital, but throughout the community.
“When broken down into individual components, this represents close to 470,000 reported results over the course of the year,” explained CMH staff.
To highlight efforts in another way, the laboratory tackled more than 3,300 critical result calls last year, in addition to routine testing. These were direct, real-time communications to clinical teams when results indicated potentially life-threatening conditions, added staff.
CMH also said the report highlighted how the team met or exceeded turnaround time targets for the majority of urgent and stat testing, “ensuring care teams received critical information quickly when it mattered most.”
Specifically, about 92 per cent of urgent/stat samples were collected within a half-hour, and 97 per cent of urgent/stat samples met turnround targets, according to the report.
“Critical result calls are some of the most important moments in our work,” Neilly added. “They require immediate action, clear communication and absolute accuracy.
“Our team takes that responsibility very seriously.”
Other highlights for 2025 in the lab department included continued investments in quality and modernization under new equipment, introduction of an online booking system for outpatient appointments and expansion of in-house testing capabilities while maintaining reported excellence in external quality assessment programs (with a 99.8 per cent success rate.)
The team also facilitated testing for nearly 15,600 lab requisitions for patients in the community and performed more than 330 Holter monitor heart tests.
Meanwhile, residents who’ve recently used the lab for outpatient services are also being encouraged to complete a new patient satisfaction survey online.
