A Northumberland County aggregate operation is being recognized for its commitment to safety, environmental stewardship and community presence.
CBM Aggregates has received a 2025 Property Enhancement Award from the Ontario Stone, Sand and Gravel Association for its Shelter Valley site in Grafton. The award was presented during the association’s annual Operations, Health and Safety Seminar in Mississauga.
The Property Enhancement Award recognizes aggregate operations that exceed basic site requirements through thoughtful design, strong environmental controls and a focus on safety and appearance. According to the association, winning sites demonstrate leadership in areas such as entrance and perimeter screening, plant and office appearance, employee spaces, environmental management and clear safety signage.
Industry officials say these improvements are more than cosmetic. They help create safer, more efficient operations while contributing positively to surrounding communities and maintaining respect for the land.
CBM Aggregates’ Shelter Valley site was one of several locations across Ontario to receive the Property Enhancement Award in 2025, placing the Northumberland County operation among industry leaders in responsible aggregate development.
The Ontario Stone, Sand and Gravel Association says the annual awards reflect a broader commitment within the sector to operate in a way that protects the environment, supports workers and strengthens relationships with local residents.
The recognition highlights how aggregate operations like Shelter Valley can balance industrial activity with thoughtful stewardship and community minded practices, setting a standard for future development across the province.
